When I was in Middle School, I started out not being able to understand math. I was never being able to grasp the subject and it was always a struggle for me. Then I got a teacher in 8th grade who believed that I could learn and taught me how to understand the topic. From that moment on I have loved math. After learning how to understand math, I finally learned how much fun it was and how accomplished you feel after completing the problem. I became obsessed with the feeling of achieving a problem I could not get for hours. I was pushed by my math teachers from Middle School to High School and I am so thankful for those teachers because they created my love for math by teaching me the right ways to learn while also being my mentors. I started growing relationships with my math teachers because of how welcoming they made me feel by asking questions and encouraging learning. I now love math and have been the student all the other students come to help figure out a problem. I have been so thankful to have those math teachers that encouraged me and were mentors to me, and I am excited to be able to do what they did for me for another student. Now that I am in college, I feel like it is the best time to become a mentor for students younger than me and create that same love for learning that I have.

I have studied at red bank Catholic high school in New Jersey. This school is the top 20% in private high schools in New Jersey. I was an honors student with a 3.76 unweighted GPA. In Alegbra 1 I scored a 98 in my middle school at st. Thomas the apostle middle school (private school) and for Algebra 2 in highschool I scored a 95 in Acp, allowing me to go into honors calculus in my junior year and graduate with a 92.5 by the end of the year. Now I say all of this, not to brag but to show my progress with all the hard work I had done. When I was in middle school, I was decent at math. I was getting Cs and Bs at first. I was in a CP class (the lowest level of math) I wasn’t doing as well as I wanted. However, I had a dream and ambition and I went for it. I had a dream to become an Acp student in the future. So I worked extremely hard to fight for the Acp title and I got it in the beginning of my high school. Then I wanted to go into honors math and I was able to in my junior and senior year. I want my students to know that I want to catapult them to success. I don’t want them to believe that they can’t get better or that I will judge them for not understanding a step. I’ve been there.I know what it’s like wanting to do better and not understanding what’s happening. I know what it’s like to be under academic pressure to do well and you’re having issues.
